The best kayakers in the world met up with some of the most wild whitewater this past weekend for the North Fork Championship. Crowds lined the banks of the Payette River in Crouch to see these world-class competitors. Peterson Toyota was proud to provide the official vehicle of the NFC to use as the athlete shuttle. Toyota USA also hosted a new race right after this year’s main event on Jacob’s Ladder, the Toyota Dash for Cash ! The top 10 fastest times from the Kokatat Qualifier were eligible for this one time sprint off the NFC Red Bull Ramp to a Toyota Banner on the course after the main event !! The winners received cash prizes of $500, $1,500 and $3,000.
The high flows in the North Fork were concerning this year. The first day of the event the river flow dropped to 3,940 cubic feet per second, down from nearly 6,000 earlier in the week. Last year it was below 1,800 cfs.
“This is … probably the most extreme kayak event to ever happen, so it’ll be really fun to watch,” Boise kayaker Micah Kneidl said Thursday.
The festival doesn’t just include kayaking, there is a whole weekend packed full of events. The Egyptian Theater in Boise, is where the festival kicks off on Thursday night. The opening night spotlights photos and video of kayaking a sort of dedication to those documenting the sport. Also, that evening the 10 Wild Cards are unveiled from the Expert Race who will be joining the Elite racers down Jacobs Ladder + Golf Course Rapids at the Saturday event.
